Overview
- UK users aged 18 and over will be offered an ad-free subscription in the coming weeks at £2.99 a month on the web or £3.99 on iOS and Android for the first account.
- Additional accounts can be added for £2 per month on the web or £3 on mobile under the same Meta Accounts Center.
- Meta says subscribers will not be shown personalised ads and their personal data will not be used to show them ads.
- A free, ad-supported version remains available, with tools such as Ad Preferences and “Why am I seeing this ad?” unchanged for non-subscribers.
- The ICO welcomed the change and will monitor the rollout, as Meta cites app-store fees for higher mobile pricing and notes prior UK legal pressure from campaigner Tanya O’Carroll.
