Meta Strikes Nuclear Deals for Up to 6.6 GW to Power AI, Including 20-Year Vistra PPAs

The strategy locks in firm, low‑carbon supply now, with advanced units targeting the early 2030s.

Overview

  • Meta signed 20-year power purchase agreements with Vistra to buy electricity from the Perry and Davis-Besse plants in Ohio and Beaver Valley in Pennsylvania.
  • The Vistra agreements cover more than 2.1 gigawatts of existing output plus 433 megawatts from planned uprates to extend capacity and plant life.
  • Meta will help fund TerraPower’s first two Natrium reactors, targeting up to 690 megawatts as early as 2032, and secured rights to power from up to six additional units by 2035.
  • A separate deal with Oklo backs a 1.2 gigawatt nuclear campus in Pike County, Ohio, with an initial phase targeted as early as 2030 and a Meta prepayment to procure fuel.
  • The packages are expected to supply up to 6.6 gigawatts by 2035 for projects including the Prometheus supercluster, with power delivered to regional grids such as PJM; shares of Vistra and Oklo jumped after the news, and SMR projects still face regulatory approvals.
