Meta Signs 20-Year Nuclear Power Deals With Vistra, Backs SMR Projects Totaling Up to 6.6 GW

The commitments target reliable zero-carbon power for Meta’s expanding AI data centers.

Overview

  • Meta agreed to purchase electricity for 20 years from Vistra’s Perry and Davis-Besse plants in Ohio and the Beaver Valley plant in Pennsylvania.
  • The Vistra contracts are designed to finance upgrades and extend operations, with the Ohio reactors licensed through at least 2036 and one Beaver Valley unit through 2047.
  • Meta will support small modular reactor development with Oklo and TerraPower, including up to 1.2 GW in Ohio as early as 2030 and two TerraPower units totaling up to 690 MW as early as 2032.
  • The combined arrangements could provide Meta with up to 6.6 GW of nuclear capacity by 2035, contingent on permitting and the successful commercialization of SMRs.
  • Meta says these nuclear commitments, together with a prior 20-year agreement to keep an Illinois reactor running, make it one of the largest corporate buyers of nuclear power.
