Meta Signs 20-Year Nuclear Deals Targeting 6.6 GW to Power AI Data Centers

The 20-year package blends firm supply from operating plants with longer-term bets on small reactors still awaiting licenses.

Overview

  • Meta inked power purchase agreements with Vistra to buy electricity from the Perry and Davis-Besse plants in Ohio and the Beaver Valley plant in Pennsylvania.
  • The Vistra contracts cover more than 2.1 gigawatts from existing reactors and fund uprates totaling 433 megawatts expected in the early 2030s, supporting extended plant operations.
  • Development partnerships with Oklo and TerraPower target up to 1.2 gigawatts in Ohio as early as 2030 and two Natrium units totaling up to 690 megawatts as early as 2032, with rights to additional TerraPower units by 2035.
  • The agreements are expected to supply up to 6.6 gigawatts by 2035 to help power Meta’s AI footprint, including the Prometheus supercluster in New Albany, Ohio, with electricity delivered into the PJM grid.
  • Financial terms were not disclosed, and shares of Vistra and Oklo rose sharply after the announcement as investors reacted to one of the largest corporate nuclear procurements to date.
