Meta Releases Muse Glimmer and Says It Will Publish Muse Spark 1.2 Weights

Mark Zuckerberg argued that widely distributed superintelligence is safer than concentrating control.

Overview

  • Meta released Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter model, Monday as an Apache 2.0 open-source system built to run on high-end personal computers with roughly 24–32 GB of RAM and recent GPUs.
  • The company said it will publish the weights for its larger Muse Spark 1.2 model so developers can download and adapt a more powerful system outside Meta’s cloud services.
  • Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word manifesto titled “The Future Is for Everyone” that urges distribution of advanced AI, criticizes strict gatekeeping, and proposes voluntary government access to training stages for risk review.
  • Meta announced a $1 billion The Future Is for Everyone Fund to support U.S. communities near its data centers and to address local concerns about energy, water and infrastructure impacts.
  • The moves position Meta against closed-model rivals and recent Chinese open releases, send a signal to investors about progress, and raise new questions about safety, intellectual property and how regulators should respond.
