Overview

  • Shengjia Zhao, co-creator of ChatGPT and GPT-4, has been formally appointed chief scientist after co-founding and leading the Superintelligence Lab since June.
  • In his new role, Zhao will collaborate directly with CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang to chart the lab’s research priorities.
  • Meta Superintelligence Labs operates as a standalone unit focused on developing full AGI, distinct from Yann LeCun’s FAIR division.
  • The company has lured top talent from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Apple and Anthropic with multiyear, nine-figure compensation packages.
  • Meta is backing its AGI ambitions with “hundreds of billions of dollars” in compute, including the upcoming Prometheus and Hyperion superclusters.
