Meta Ends Global Policy Curbing COVID-19 Misinformation on Facebook and Instagram

Meta Platforms is ending its policy aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 misinformation on Facebook and Instagram globally.
The policy was implemented in 2020 due to pressure on social media companies to address pandemic-related misinformation.
Under the policy, Facebook removed over 1.3 billion fake accounts and more than 12 million pieces of COVID-19 misinformation.
The policy will remain in place only in countries that still have an official COVID-19 public health emergency.
Meta will consult health experts to determine which types of claims and misinformation still pose risks to update its approach.
