Overview
- Passkeys for Facebook are now available on iOS and Android, enabling login with fingerprint, facial recognition or device PIN.
- Credentials are stored locally on devices and split between a private key on the phone and a public key on Facebook’s servers, making passkeys resistant to phishing and hacking.
- Meta plans to extend passkey support to Messenger in the coming months and to Meta Pay for secure payment detail autofills.
- Google, Apple, Microsoft and Adobe have already adopted passkeys across their platforms, with Microsoft setting them as the default login method for new accounts since May.
- Instagram remains the only major Meta service without passkey support and has no announced timeline for rollout.
