- Meta and defense startup Anduril have launched the EagleEye project to develop augmented reality headsets for US soldiers.
- AI-enabled sensors in the headsets are designed to expand soldiers’ situational awareness by improving sight, hearing and weapons-control capabilities.
- The effort is part of the US Army’s $22 billion headsets program, for which Meta and Anduril have also bid on a separate $100 million contract for specialized VR devices.
- Mark Zuckerberg said he was proud to equip American troops with advanced technology, and Palmer Luckey said the venture advances his goal of turning soldiers into “Technomancers.”
- Both companies intend to continue EagleEye development regardless of whether they secure the immediate military contract award.
