Overview

  • Meta and defense startup Anduril Industries unveiled a collaboration on May 29 to develop the EagleEye mixed-reality system for U.S. Army use.
  • The EagleEye headset will merge Meta’s AR/VR hardware and Llama AI with Anduril’s Lattice command platform to enhance soldiers’ vision and hearing on the battlefield.
  • The companies have bid for up to $100 million under the Army’s $22 billion wearable systems program but plan to advance development regardless of the contract outcome.
  • Built with private capital, the project seeks to repurpose commercial components for military applications and save the Pentagon billions of dollars.
  • The alliance marks Meta’s most visible defense initiative and reunites Mark Zuckerberg with Palmer Luckey after their public split in 2017.
