Met Unveils 'Costume Art' to Open New Condé M. Nast Galleries in Spring 2026

The new Condé M. Nast Galleries give fashion a permanent, central home at the Met.

Overview

  • The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, titled “Costume Art,” will open May 10, 2026 and run through January 10, 2027.
  • Nearly 12,000 square feet of galleries adjacent to the Great Hall, converted from the former retail space, will debut as the institute’s new spring venue and future host for other museum shows.
  • Curator Andrew Bolton will pair around 200 artworks with roughly 200 garments across the Met’s 5,000-year collection to foreground the dressed body.
  • The show is organized by body-focused themes, including the Naked, Classical, Pregnant, Aging, and Anatomical bodies.
  • Display plans feature mannequins on six-foot pedestals with mirrored heads by artist Samar Hejazi and cast real bodies, with funding from Jeff and Lauren Bezos, Saint Laurent, and Condé Nast; the Met Gala will precede the opening as the Costume Institute’s primary fundraiser, with co-chairs and dress code to be announced.
