Met Unveils 2026 Met Gala Theme ‘Costume Art,’ Opening New Condé Nast Galleries

The exhibition unites 200 artworks with 200 garments to center the dressed body in art history.

Overview

  • The Met Gala is set for May 4, 2026, with the Costume Institute exhibition opening May 10 and running through Jan. 10, 2027.
  • The show inaugurates the nearly 12,000-square-foot Condé M. Nast Galleries adjacent to the museum’s Great Hall.
  • Curator Andrew Bolton’s concept spans five millennia as it juxtaposes pieces from across The Met’s collection with garments from the Costume Institute.
  • Displays will follow a typology of bodies — including the Naked, Classical, Pregnant and Mortal bodies — with mannequins featuring mirrored heads atop six-foot pedestals.
  • Lead sponsors Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos are confirmed, while the dress code and celebrity co-chairs have not yet been announced.
