Overview

• Police have imposed Public Order Act conditions on Saturday’s Palestine Coalition march, fixing assembly on Victoria Embankment, a route over Westminster Bridge via Waterloo Bridge and the Strand to Whitehall, and a 5:30pm finish.
• A Stop The Hate counter-protest is restricted to the Aldwych and Strand junction with a designated area set by officers.
• The demonstration goes ahead a day after a Gaza ceasefire took effect, with organisers and media reporting expectations of hundreds of thousands of attendees.
• Earlier this week, the Met barred pro-Palestinian assemblies around Whitehall and near Great Portland Street and Portland Place due to a nearby synagogue, and two people were arrested for breaching the Whitehall condition during the CAA event.
• The Met has acknowledged government proposals to let police consider the cumulative impact of repeat protests but says the law is unchanged as it works with the Home Office.
