Met Sergeant Dismissed Over BBC Footage Mocking Rape Allegation

The ruling makes him the fifth officer removed following BBC Panorama’s covert filming.

Overview

  • An accelerated misconduct hearing on October 28 found Sgt Clayton Robinson committed gross misconduct and ordered his dismissal without notice, chaired by Commander Andy Brittain.
  • Undercover BBC recordings played to the tribunal captured Robinson making a remark about not remembering taking his trousers off and singing an Oompa Loompa song after suggesting a suspect could be “orange with green hair.”
  • Robinson denied mocking a complainant and said his comments reflected frustration with the investigation and concern that a detainee might have been wrongfully arrested.
  • The Met said Robinson will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List, with Commander Simon Messinger calling his behaviour appalling.
  • Four officers were sacked last week in related cases, and further hearings are set for PC Sean Park on November 7 and former PC Brian Sharkey on November 28, with a hearing for Sgt Steve Stamp to be scheduled.
