Overview
- On February 18, a 285-year-old violin was taken from The Marquess Tavern on Canonbury Street in Islington and remains missing.
- The instrument was made in Florence in 1740 by Lorenzo Carcassi and valued at over £150,000 after being loaned to violinist David Lopez Ibanez by a German businessman.
- CCTV footage shows a male suspect wearing a pale beanie hat and light brown coat carrying a black violin case as he exits the pub.
- The Metropolitan Police have released the images and are urging anyone with information to call 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting reference 01/7178074/25.
- Ibanez describes the violin as “priceless” and says its loss has “torn his life apart,” noting that three bows and a cotton bag made by his grandmother were also stolen.
