Met Officer Denies Gross Misconduct Over Croydon Bus Fare Arrest at Ongoing Tribunal

Scotland Yard says the alleged breach, if proved, could result in dismissal.

Overview

  • Bodyworn footage played to the hearing captured the officer shouting "stop resisting" and calling Jocelyn Agyemang a "daft cow" as she protested that her arm was being hurt.
  • Ms Agyemang had paid her fare and was de-arrested at the scene after her Oyster card was checked during a joint TfLMet ticket operation on Whitehorse Road in Croydon.
  • Pc Perry Lathwood, who allegedly grabbed and handcuffed her without lawful basis, denies gross misconduct in relation to the use of force and language.
  • He was previously fined £1,500 for assault over the incident, a conviction that was quashed last September.
  • Ms Agyemang told the tribunal she was distressed, sought A&E treatment for bruising to her arm, and Lathwood said he used the phrase "daft cow" because she was moving toward the road; the hearing continues without a decision.
