Overview
- Yellow warnings now span much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and parts of Wales and South West England, including a 36-hour snow and ice alert for South West England and Wales from Wednesday midday to Thursday midnight.
- Overnight ice is likely Tuesday into Wednesday after rain and hill snow clear, creating slick conditions on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
- Forecasters expect lows near -11C in rural Scotland and around -5C in parts of England, with daytime temperatures in low single digits and a brisk northerly wind increasing the chill.
- Snow accumulations of 2–5 cm are possible where showers are frequent, with 15–25 cm on higher ground such as the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Wolds and Scottish hills.
- UKHSA has an amber cold health alert for the North East, North West and Yorkshire with a yellow alert elsewhere, and the Met Office advises simple precautions such as leaving five minutes earlier to reduce slips and falls.
