Met Office Rain and Wind Warnings Cover Large Parts of UK as Flood Alerts Mount

With flood alerts in place, forecasters expect the heaviest rain to ease by dawn for many areas.

Overview

  • Yellow warnings for heavy rain span Wales, northern and western England, the Midlands and parts of Scotland through Saturday night, with a separate wind warning from afternoon into early Sunday.
  • Forecasters expect 20–30mm of rain widely with some places seeing 60–80mm in just a few hours, with isolated thunder possible.
  • Gusts could reach 50–60mph inland and 65–75mph on some coasts, strongest around the Bristol Channel and west Wales before shifting to North Sea coasts overnight.
  • The Environment Agency lists more than 40 flood alerts in England and over 20 in Wales, with flood warnings including Keswick Campsite and a warning on the North Sea coast near Hornsea.
  • Local impacts include flooded roads and delays, such as a blocked stretch of the A483 near Swansea, as the rain band moves east and cooler, brighter weather returns for many on Sunday before a more settled start to next week.
