Met Office Issues Yellow Rain Warning for Cumbria and the Lake District Overnight Into Tuesday

Forecasters warn of saturated catchments with 30–60 mm of additional rain, possibly higher in prone spots.

Overview

  • The alert covers most of Cumbria and the Lake District from 12am to 11am on Tuesday, November 3.
  • Rainfall rates are expected to pick up from Monday evening through late Tuesday morning, with widespread 30–60 mm and isolated totals up to 80 mm.
  • After heavy rain on Sunday night and early Monday, very wet ground increases the likelihood of surface water and river response, with flooding of a few homes and businesses deemed probable.
  • Bus and train services may see delays, and spray or flooding on roads is likely to slow journeys and extend travel times.
  • Residents are urged to check flood risk, prepare a flood plan and emergency kit, review travel plans, and ready torches, batteries and a phone power pack in case of power cuts.
