Overview
- An amber wind warning is in force for northern and western Scotland from 5pm Friday to 9am Saturday, with wider yellow alerts for wind and rain across Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales and parts of northern England.
- Gusts are forecast at 50–60 mph inland and 70–80 mph in exposed areas, with the amber area warned of possible gusts exceeding 95 mph and a risk to life from flying debris and dangerous coastal waves.
- Heavy rain will target western Scotland, where 30–50 mm could fall in six to nine hours, heightening the threat of localised flooding following earlier downpours.
- Transport Scotland, the RAC and operators caution of likely disruption to roads, rail, ferries and flights and advise planning journeys carefully or travelling only if essential.
- The Met Office urges people to secure outdoor items, prepare for potential power cuts and check frequent forecast updates as the storm’s exact track remains uncertain.
