Overview
- Heavy rain is forecast from 5pm Wednesday, October 1 to 6am Friday, October 3, covering parts of Argyll and Bute, Highland, Strathclyde, and Central, Tayside & Fife including Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire.
- Projected totals are widely 50–75mm, rising to 100–150mm on west-facing mountains and up to 200–250mm on a few peaks, according to the Met Office.
- Officials warn of transport disruption, flooding of roads and properties, possible power cuts and difficult travel, with strongest rain focused over hills and mountains.
- The Met Office says a late-week system influenced by Humberto and Imelda could deepen near the UK, bringing further heavy rain and potentially very strong winds from Friday into Saturday, though the track remains uncertain.
- Model guidance also signals short, localized snow bursts in the Scottish Highlands around October 7 and a separate mid-October flurry risk reaching the Pennines, but forecasters stress low confidence and no notable nationwide cold.
