Mesa Home Intrusion Suspect Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges in Stabbings of Mother and Two Daughters

Police call the case isolated with no known link to the family, with investigators examining how the attacker entered the apartment.

Overview

  • The attack happened just before 5 a.m. on Sept. 17 at an apartment near Dobson and Broadway roads, where a 16-year-old was stabbed first and fled to a friend’s home to call for help.
  • The mother and an 18-year-old were then stabbed during a struggle that left the mother with facial fractures; all three victims are hospitalized and expected to recover.
  • Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Lowell Tucker Dorn, who was found by Tempe officers after reports of a man trying to enter cars and a home near McClintock Drive and Apache Boulevard.
  • Prosecutors say Dorn admitted intending to kill the victims; a judge set a $2 million cash-only bond after describing the assault as a “random, ferocious attack.”
  • Dorn faces multiple felonies including three counts of attempted murder and residential burglary, and authorities also asked for tips about a family dog reported missing during the incident.
