Overview

  • The government confirmed the August 28 visit, with the chancellor to be received by Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack before flying by NH-90 to the frigate Bayern for a board tour and press statement.
  • A planned at-sea capability demonstration will involve multiple assets, including the corvette Magdeburg, the tender Donau, the Sea Lynx helicopter, the replenishment ship Frankfurt am Main, the P-3C Orion and the mine countermeasures boat Rottweil.
  • Rostock hosts the Marinekommando and around 1,800 service members plus roughly 300 civilian staff, and it is home to the 1st Corvette Squadron with five K130s in port and five more from the follow-on batch on the way.
