Overview
- Former Commerzbank chief Martin Blessing will begin on 1 October in the chancellery and serve for a symbolic one euro without a salary.
- His mandate is to act as the central contact for international investors, promote Germany’s strengths and raise its visibility in the global competition for projects.
- Blessing will chair the supervisory board of Germany Trade and Invest and coordinate closely with federal ministries and economic promotion bodies.
- He plans direct engagement with financiers, including meetings, travel and the organization of a large investors conference in Germany.
- The appointment complements measures such as the investment quick-action program, a 500-billion-euro infrastructure fund and corporate tax reform, as FDI into Germany has more than halved since 2021.
