Merseyside Police Renew Appeal in 2007 Disappearance of Ray Shearwood

Detectives mark the 18th anniversary with a fresh appeal for information in the suspected murder.

Overview

  • CCTV last captured the 36-year-old at about 4:45pm on August 19, 2007, parking a green Ford Mondeo at the Alt Park pub in Maghull before walking toward a Volkswagen Golf.
  • The Serious Crime Review Unit says the case is treated as a murder inquiry, with no body recovered, no contact from Shearwood, and his mobile phone unused since that day.
  • One line of inquiry points to an unpaid drug debt linked to a gang described as notorious and involved in international drug crime.
  • Shearwood, a former boxer and father-of-three, had prior convictions for drug supply, money laundering and tax evasion, and was released from prison in November 2006.
  • Police urge anyone who was at the car park that day or has information to contact @MerPolCC, call 101, or reach Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
