Overview
- The United States Golf Association announced Thursday that Merion Golf Club outside Philadelphia is its fourth U.S. Open anchor site, formalizing a long-term hosting relationship.
- Merion is scheduled to hold the U.S. Open in 2030, 2040 and 2050 and the U.S. Women’s Open in 2034 and 2046, with the 2034 staging marking Merion’s first Women’s Open.
- The designation places Merion alongside Pebble Beach, Pinehurst and Oakmont as courses the USGA will return to regularly under its anchor-site program that began in 2020.
- The USGA says the predictable schedule will allow it and Merion to plan further ahead for course work, spectator facilities and volunteer coordination, building on the club’s strong recent local engagement during the 2026 U.S. Amateur.
- Merion has hosted more USGA championships than any other club and is known for landmark moments in golf history, such as Bobby Jones’s 1930 U.S. Amateur and Ben Hogan’s 1-iron at the 1950 U.S. Open.
