Mercedes Unveils Vision Iconic Concept Coupe in Shanghai

The show car showcases heritage design cues with technology Mercedes says will inform future models.

Overview

  • The two-door concept introduces Mercedes’ illuminated five-slat ‘Iconic Grille,’ a larger upright face already appearing on the new GLC EV and positioned as a unifying cue for upcoming vehicles.
  • Its Art Deco exterior and ‘hyper-analog’ cabin feature a floating glass ‘Zeppelin’ dashboard, four chronograph-style clocks with an AI companion, a front bench seat, straw marquetry flooring, and brass and mother‑of‑pearl details.
  • Mercedes highlights neuromorphic computing for more efficient automated driving, steer-by-wire with rear-axle steering, and a path from today’s Level 2 capability toward potential Level 4 hands-off, eyes-off operation and automated parking.
  • A photovoltaic ‘solar paint’ coating is showcased with a company estimate of up to about 7,500 miles of additional driving range per year under ideal conditions on a mid-size SUV–sized surface, with recyclable materials and no rare earths.
  • The Vision Iconic is framed as a preview of the next S‑Class design and a possible return of two-door variants, though Mercedes has not confirmed production of the concept itself, and it launched the car alongside a capsule collection at Shanghai Fashion Week.
