Mercedes Names Burzer CTO, Elevates Schiebe to Lead Production

The company casts the shift as closer alignment of development, procurement, production to improve efficiency with targeted rejuvenation of the board.

Overview

  • Effective December 1, 2025, Jörg Burzer moves from Production to lead Development & Procurement and becomes Chief Technology Officer, succeeding Markus Schäfer.
  • MercedesAMG head Michael Schiebe joins the board to oversee Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management on the same date.
  • Markus Schäfer will leave when his contract expires after more than 30 years, having steered the company’s electrification and digital integration efforts.
  • The supervisory board says the reshuffle combines continuity with generational renewal and tightens the operational link between engineering and manufacturing to boost competitiveness.
  • A successor to Schiebe at AMG has not been announced, and the moves extend an ongoing board refresh that included a larger overhaul last December.
