Mercedes, Momenta and Lumo to Launch S‑Class Level 4 Robotaxis in Abu Dhabi in 2026

Abu Dhabi’s new approvals provide the regulatory runway for a premium driverless service to start next year.

Overview

  • Mercedes-Benz will supply next-generation S-Class vehicles with its MB.OS software, Momenta will provide the Level 4 autonomous driving stack, and Lumo will run operations in Abu Dhabi.
  • K2, Lumo’s parent, has federal approval to operate autonomous vehicles in the UAE, enabling the S-Class fleet to enter service on Abu Dhabi roads.
  • The Integrated Transport Centre has already issued Level 4 operating permits and launched driverless services with providers such as WeRide and AutoGo-K2, establishing a live testbed.
  • Commercial service in Abu Dhabi is planned for 2026 with partners indicating intent to expand to additional international markets after the pilot phase.
  • The project targets a premium robotaxi experience by combining S-Class comfort and safety features with Momenta’s R6 reinforcement learning model for autonomous driving.
