Overview
- At the Old Bailey, Evan Forde received a 12-year prison term and an 18-year driving ban after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
- Prosecutors said the Mercedes reached more than 140mph on a 40mph stretch of Hendon Way before striking the rear of a BMW at around 3:45am.
- Police had signalled the Mercedes to stop, it sped off, and less than a minute later it hit the BMW; occupants of the Mercedes fled the scene.
- Forde handed himself in two days later and gave no-comment interviews, which the judge said forced lengthy forensic work and delayed closure for the family.
- The court heard he had 10 prior convictions including dangerous driving and was on bail at the time, as CCTV, phone and bodyworn video evidence underpinned the case alongside powerful victim impact statements.
