Mercedes-Benz Launches Electric-First GLB as Orders Open in Germany

The compact SUV replaces the EQB, introducing Mercedes’ MB.OS cabin with an optional Superscreen.

The new-gen Mercedes-Benz GLB has debuted with EV and ICE powertrains, and will come to India in the latter guise only, at least initially.

New GLB has a 60mm longer wheelbase and is 98mm longer overall, which should translate to a roomier cabin.

Overview

  • German configurator opened on 8 December with prices from €59,048 for the GLB 250+ and €62,178 for the GLB 350 4MATIC, with first deliveries slated for spring 2026.
  • Two EV variants lead the rollout: the 200 kW GLB 250+ (RWD, 0–100 km/h in 7.4s, up to 631 km WLTP) and the 260 kW GLB 350 4MATIC (AWD, 0–100 km/h in 5.5s, up to 614 km WLTP).
  • An 85 kWh battery and 800‑volt architecture enable DC fast charging up to 320 kW, with a claimed 260 km of range added in 10 minutes.
  • The software-forward interior runs MB.OS with fourth‑gen MBUX, an optional dash‑spanning Superscreen, and an AI assistant integrating Microsoft and Google services.
  • A 60 mm longer wheelbase brings more space for five- or seven-seat layouts, with EV versions offering a 127‑litre frunk and up to 540 litres of rear cargo capacity; entry EV and 1.5‑litre mild‑hybrid options are planned for 2026.
