Mercedes-Benz India Drops A-Class, EQA, EQB, EQE as CLA EV Bookings Begin

The move signals a pivot to higher-margin luxury in response to weaker entry-level demand.

Overview

  • Mercedes-Benz India said it has ended sales of the A-Class Limousine, EQA, EQB and EQE, with all remaining units already sold.
  • With the A-Class gone, the GLA SUV now serves as the brand’s most affordable petrol or diesel model in India.
  • The company will unveil the CLA electric sedan on April 24, with bookings open for Rs 1.5 lakh and an expected ex-showroom price of about Rs 52–55 lakh.
  • Reports say the CLA EV uses an EV-first MMA platform with 800-volt hardware and a two-speed gearbox, and long-range versions are claimed to offer up to about 792 km.
  • Mercedes says it is refocusing on higher-value models, citing FY26 sales of 19,363 units with strong growth at the top end and a drop in entry-level demand.
