Overview
- Two GT XX prototypes lapped Italy’s Nardò circuit for 7 days and 13 hours to cover 40,075 km, then continued to the 25,000-mile mark.
- The 24-hour distance reached 5,479 km (3,405 miles), surpassing XPeng’s recent 3,961 km benchmark by 1,518 km.
- Drivers held roughly 300 km/h (186 mph) and paused only for ~850 kW DC fast charges before returning to speed.
- A roster of 17 drivers, including F1 driver George Russell, rotated in two-hour stints to keep the cars running nearly nonstop.
- The concept uses three oil-cooled axial-flux motors (~1,360 hp) and an >800 V NCMA cylindrical-cell pack with direct oil cooling, and Mercedes claims ~400 km of range can be added in about five minutes under test conditions; the company says the car previews a forthcoming four-door AMG GT EV.
