Mercado Pago Launches QR Payment on Over 174 Bus Lines Nationwide

This offline QR option lets riders pay bus fares on any smartphone without a physical SUBE card or data connection

Overview

  • More than 174 colectivo lines across AMBA and provinces began accepting Mercado Pago’s QR code this week
  • Payments are confirmed instantly by scanning an offline QR at bus validators without NFC or internet, debiting users’ Mercado Pago balance or linked cards
  • Coverage spans Córdoba, Mendoza, Rosario, Rafaela, San Miguel de Tucumán, Jujuy, Neuquén, Río Negro, San Luis, Catamarca and the greater Buenos Aires area with more routes to follow
  • Santa Fe city’s older validator hardware cannot read the QR code and requires replacements by Nación Servicios scheduled for October
  • Visa and partner banks are running NFC-only promotions for subte travel through September with full fare refunds, separate from the QR-based colectivo payments
