• Mentor Schools said freshman Lucas McGee died Oct. 9 at the hospital surrounded by loved ones.
• He collapsed during conditioning on Sept. 29, the cross-country coach began CPR, 911 was called, and he was flown by air ambulance to the Cleveland Clinic.
• Lucas’ father said the fire department arrived in about three minutes and that his son had stopped breathing before CPR was started.
• The family reported a recent sore throat and a positive rhinovirus test, and no official cause of death has been released.
• The district will have school counselors, a school psychologist, and the Lake County Trauma Response Team available, and it shared a tribute describing Lucas as warm, kind, driven, and respectful.
