Overview

  • Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has officially opposed their parole applications, citing public safety concerns.
  • The brothers will appear separately—Erik on August 21 and Lyle on August 22—via video feed from the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.
  • Their eligibility stems from a May resentencing by Judge Michael Jesic that reduced their life without parole terms to 50 years to life under youthful offender reforms.
  • Parole commissioners will assess prison behavior, educational progress and contested claims of parental abuse in determining suitability.
  • Any favorable recommendation will undergo a chief counsel review before Governor Gavin Newsom has up to 150 days to make a final decision.
