Overview

  • Erik Menendez will appear Aug. 21 and Lyle Menendez Aug. 22 by videoconference from Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.
  • They became eligible after a May 2025 resentencing reduced their punishments from life without parole to 50 years to life under California’s youthful‑offender law.
  • A panel will evaluate each brother separately and consider criminal history, motivation, remorse, institutional behavior, and release plans in assessing risk.
  • If parole is granted, the decision goes to the Board of Parole Hearings’ chief counsel for up to 120 days of legal review, followed by a 30‑day review by Gov. Gavin Newsom who can affirm or reverse.
  • Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has formally opposed their release, and a separate habeas petition seeking review of their convictions remains pending.
