Menendez Brothers’ Family Meets District Attorney to Advocate for Resentencing

The meeting aims to present evidence of abuse and rehabilitation as part of a renewed push for reduced sentences for Erik and Lyle Menendez.

Erik and Lyle Menendez’s family met with Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman to discuss the possibility of resentencing the brothers, who are serving life sentences for the 1989 murders of their parents.
The Justice for Erik and Lyle Coalition, comprised of over 20 family members, argues that the brothers’ sentences should reflect their claims of abuse, trauma, and demonstrated rehabilitation over the past 35 years.
New evidence, including a letter from Erik Menendez and allegations from a former Menudo band member, has been presented to support claims of long-term sexual abuse by their father, José Menendez.
A court hearing scheduled for January 30-31, 2025, will consider the brothers’ petition for resentencing, following a delay to allow the district attorney to review extensive case records and evidence.
The brothers’ defense team has also filed a clemency request with California Governor Gavin Newsom, though the governor has deferred any decision until the district attorney concludes his review.
