Overview

  • Separate hearings on Aug. 21–22 ended in minimum three-year denials, setting the next eligibility date in 2028 with the possibility of an administrative review that could advance a hearing to roughly 18 months.
  • Commissioners pointed to contraband cellphones, drug and alcohol violations, misuse of state computers, inappropriate conduct with visitors, and Erik Menendez’s role in a prison gang tax scheme.
  • Parole panels acknowledged expressions of remorse and program participation but said both men still exhibit deception, minimization, rule breaking and other anti‑social traits.
  • Gov. Gavin Newsom has up to 30 days to review the decisions, which otherwise become final after the board’s post‑hearing process.
  • The brothers continue to pursue a habeas corpus petition seeking a new trial based on newly disclosed evidence, a move opposed by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.
