Mendoza Launches Tender for Eastern Commuter Rail, Final Call Set for Sept. 24

The province posted a draft bid for 15 days of public comment before issuing a two-lot tender that separates infrastructure works from service operation.

Overview

  • Officials confirmed the public procurement for the Tren de Cercanías del Este, with a draft pliego online now and the definitive tender publication scheduled for September 24.
  • The contract will be split between heavy renewal of about 33 km of track with station upgrades and a separate lot for operating and maintaining the passenger service.
  • Initial operations are planned at an hourly frequency with a service speed of 90 km/h, integrating with the Metrotranvía, urban and suburban buses, and the Bicitrán network.
  • The route will run from Libertador General San Martín (Junín) to Gutiérrez (Maipú) with intermediate stops at Palmira, Barcala, Fray Luis Beltrán, Rodeo del Medio, General Ortega and Coquimbito.
  • Mendoza will fund works and rolling stock and use the Belgrano Cargas corridor without paying a canon under a June agreement, with officials citing a US$130 million budget as another report references about US$100 million and the governor signaling a preference for private management of operations.
