Memphis Medical Student Fatally Shot by Ex-Boyfriend After Charity Event

Ellie Claire Young, a medical student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, was shot and killed after a breast cancer charity walk in Memphis.
The suspect, 26-year-old Jackson Hopper, is Young's ex-boyfriend and has been charged with first-degree murder, among other charges.
Witnesses reported that Hopper fired multiple shots into Young's vehicle and then at her as she lay on the ground.
Hopper was apprehended after a police chase that ended with his car crashing; he is being held without bail and faces additional charges from the pursuit.
An internal investigation is underway regarding the arrest, as video footage shows officers allegedly using excessive force on Hopper.
