Memphis Freshmen Mikey Williams and JJ Taylor to Enter Transfer Portal

Memphis freshman Mikey Williams, who has not made his college basketball debut after pleading guilty to a gun charge, will enter the transfer portal.
Williams was charged with nine felony counts after a shooting near his San Diego home in March 2023, but pleaded guilty to one count of criminal threatening.
Williams has not practiced with the team and his status with the school has not changed, according to Tigers coach Penny Hardaway.
Another Memphis freshman, JJ Taylor, also plans to transfer. Taylor was high school teammates with Williams and was suspended before the Dec. 23 Vanderbilt game for an unspecified team rules violation.
Williams' future is uncertain, but he could potentially transfer to a solid mid-major or good low-major program, or even begin his pro career overseas.
