Memorial Service for Alex Salmond to Feature Proclaimers and Tributes from Political Allies
The service at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh will honor the late Scottish leader with music, readings, and eulogies, and will be live-streamed for public viewing.
- Alex Salmond, former Scottish First Minister and independence advocate, passed away on October 12 after a heart attack in North Macedonia.
- A public memorial service will be held on St Andrew’s Day, November 30, at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, following a private family funeral on October 29.
- The Proclaimers will perform their pro-independence song 'Cap in Hand,' alongside musical contributions from Dougie MacLean and Sheena Wellington.
- Tributes will be delivered by Salmond’s political allies Kenny MacAskill and Duncan Hamilton KC, as well as his niece Christina Hendry, among others.
- The service will include readings from figures such as Conservative MP Sir David Davis and SNP MSP Fergus Ewing, and will conclude with a piper leading the congregation out of the cathedral.
