Meloni Begins Asia Mission in Oman Ahead of Planned Tokyo and Seoul Agreements

  • The Italian prime minister is flying to Muscat for a bilateral with Sultan Haitham at Al Barakah Palace, followed by a dinner in her honor.
  • Talks in Oman focus on strengthening cooperation across defense, justice, culture, education, research, sport, and social policies, with regional discussions on the Middle East, Yemen, and Iran.
  • In Tokyo on 16 January, Meloni will meet Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, with a joint declaration expected to elevate ties to a Special Strategic Partnership and accelerate the 2024–2027 Action Plan.
  • On 17 January she will meet top Japanese corporate leaders at the Italian embassy to encourage new industrial partnerships and investment in Italy.
