Melissa Rivers Engaged to Attorney Steve Mitchel, No Wedding Plans Until 2025

Melissa Rivers and Steve Mitchel engaged after meeting at a Didi Hirsch Mental Health and Suicide Prevention event where Rivers serves on the board; Melissa's mom, late comedian Joan Rivers, would have approved of the ring and the fiancé.

  • Melissa Rivers, daughter of late comedian Joan Rivers and former host of Fashion Police, is engaged to attorney Steve Mitchel after a year and a half of dating. The couple met at a Didi Hirsch Mental Health and Suicide Prevention event where Rivers serves on the board.
  • The proposal took place during a vacation at the One & Only Mandarina Resort in Mexico, a moment that Rivers describes as a complete surprise and shock. Mitchel had even sought approval from River's 22-year-old son, Cooper, before proposing.
  • Rivers jokes that her engagement came as a surprise as she had convinced herself and her friends that she would 'never' remarry following her split from her first husband, John Endicott, in 2003. The couple shares a son, Cooper, who is now 22 years old.
  • Rivers firmly believes that her late mother, Joan Rivers, would have approved of both the engagement and the custom-designed ring. The ring was specially crafted by one of Rivers' close friends at McNeal and Grunberg, adding extra sentiment.
  • Despite the engagement, the couple has no plans to rush into marriage. Rivers anticipates that if they do arrange a ceremony, it will not take place before 2025 and that it will be 'nothing like' her first wedding.
