Overview
- Victoria Police allege the 36-year-old stole a van from St Kilda Road at 5:40 am on July 11 and led officers on a multi-suburb pursuit
- The hours-long chase traversed Footscray, Port Melbourne, Spotswood, Carnegie, Sunshine, Dandenong and Point Cook, with the van colliding with parked and moving vehicles
- In Point Cook just after 1 pm, the van hit a street sign and the suspect jumped from the moving vehicle before being struck by a police car and arrested
- He faces almost 50 charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, 12 counts of reckless conduct endangering life, 17 counts endangering serious injury, unlicensed driving and committing offences while on bail
- He remains in hospital under police guard and is due to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today as investigations continue
