Melbourne Man Charged with Murder of Live-In Carer Following Alleged Hammer Attack

Kenneth Magee, a 62-year-old live-in carer, was found with life-threatening injuries in a Werribee home on Monday night and later died in hospital.
John Sheffield, 55, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder after allegedly attacking Magee with a hammer.
Sheffield, who has schizophrenia, epilepsy, diabetes, and chronic heart issues, appeared emotional during his first court appearance, crying and waving to family members.
Prosecutors requested additional time to compile evidence, but the magistrate denied the request, giving police the standard six weeks to prepare their case.
Sheffield has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court in February for a committal mention hearing.
