Overview

  • Antwany Arnold, 50, faces affray and missile-throwing charges over a July 4 protest outside Israeli restaurant Miznon where he is accused of hurling food and chairs.
  • Court heard CCTV and body-worn camera footage of an April incident in Bourke Street in which Arnold allegedly spat on a man, made threats and played offensive chants.
  • Arnold breached a bail order barring him from Melbourne’s CBD by attending the Miznon incident and another demonstration earlier in July.
  • Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz found his behaviour posed an ongoing risk to community mental wellbeing and ruled that no set of bail conditions could mitigate that danger.
  • Arnold remains in custody and is scheduled to return to Melbourne Magistrates Court for a contest mention in August.
