Meghalaya To Appoint Nodal Officer To Drive ANVC Accord After High-Level Review

Officials cite pending 125th Amendment action for unresolved clauses.

Overview

  • Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong chaired a clause-by-clause review in Shillong with Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, DGP Idashisha Nongrang and senior officials.
  • The government says 50–60% of the 2014 settlement has been implemented, and surrender packages and other entitlements for ANVC and ANVC-B members are largely complete.
  • A dedicated nodal officer under the Development Commissioner will coordinate former leaders, state departments and the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council to improve follow-through.
  • Certain provisions require parliamentary action on the Constitution (125th Amendment), and a parliamentary panel is reported to have sent recommendations to the Home Ministry.
  • Priority work includes road building, forest preservation and arts-and-culture infrastructure in Garo Hills, while courts have cleared about 60 of roughly 100–120 serious cases against surrendered cadres.
