Overview

• After two years of statewide consultations, the commission finalized its report to adapt Meghalaya’s education system to NEP 2020 principles
• The recommendations span school consolidation, higher education overhaul, enhanced teacher training, improved student performance metrics and governance restructuring
• Prof Sherwin May Sungoh led MSEC in presenting the report on August 13, 2025, to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Chief Secretary D P Wahlang
• Sangma described the report as “a vital roadmap” and committed to reviewing its proposals carefully and rolling out accepted measures in phases
• The government will inform Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of the findings and establish an expert committee to translate the recommendations into policy, with specific timelines still under consideration
